To make it easy to do business anywhere – this is Alibaba Group’s mission statement. Recently, I concluded a training program at their headquarters in Hangzhou, China, and throughout this experience, I observed a recurring trait among the facilitators – an unwavering commitment to delivering customer value. They emphasized that both the leadership and the staff of Alibaba Group embrace an “outside-in” approach to their work.
Remarkably, Jack Ma consistently prioritizes whether a given idea benefits the customer before any other consideration. I thought that was very interesting, that neither profit/salary nor showmanship drives the entrepreneur and his team, but instead the need to make people’s lives better. This core value, focused on enhancing people’s lives, was palpable in their demeanor, I could see the fire in their eyes, passion in their heart, and power in their strides.
This is the spirit of Alibaba. This should be the spirit of a kingdom entrepreneur.
A kingdom-driven entrepreneur is, in essence, a steward in the marketplace. Their primary goal is to establish a business that not only honors God but also enhances the quality of life for individuals. They incorporate biblical principles into their business operations, and while profitability is a vital aspect, it is not their principal motivator. Instead, their driving force is the aspiration to alleviate poverty, provide employees with a sense of purpose, and fulfill the God-given mandate of stewarding the Earth and its inhabitants.

For a kingdompreneur, God’s work extends far beyond the financial support they give to religious ministries and charities; their service to God actually commences with a defined brand purpose, starting from the moment they conceive the business idea for the product or service. This brand purpose influences what they create, how they create it, how they present it to the world, and how they utilize the profits derived from their labor. It is crucial to understand that a kingdompreneur is not fixated on wealth. While it is expected they possess sound business acumen and financial literacy, they recognize that money is merely a tool, valuable only when it is in motion.
God is in need of men and women who are empathetic to the societal needs and are willing to actively find solutions to them. This humanist work approach is deeply loved by God, and He rewards it immensely, as seen in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (NKJV). I understand the dire need for survival that is paramount in the world today, but more than ever the Lord is in need of people who will look beyond their needs and desires and instead contemplate, “How can I contribute to making the world a better place than I met it?”
Consider the immense impact if more Christians were attuned to God’s divine purpose and held prominent positions in governance and economic development; Proverbs 29:2 states the profound effect this would have, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan” (NKJV). It is my firm belief that now, more than ever, Christian inventors, designers, scientists, creators, politicians, and business leaders should be active in the marketplace, shedding God’s light into work places, and refocusing people’s minds on humanism. While I understand that this has been God’s struggle with man since forever, I believe that with a little more involvement of godly people the world would be a better place.
There is the possibility that you could be thinking what more is there to do on earth that hasn’t been done, or that you’re just a kid at the backside of Owo not knowing what impact you can make on the earth. Listen, there remains an abundance of untapped potential on Earth, waiting to be revealed to those who walk in harmony with God.
“But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.”
I Corinthians 2:10-12 NKJV
“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
Isaiah 6:8 NKJV
